Richland County, SC (WLTX) - Richland County deputies will begin leaving their blue lights on all the time.
Sheriff Leon Lott announced the new policy Thursday, and says it will be in effect starting at 7 p.m. Friday.
Lott says he wants the blue lights on constantly to increase the public's awareness of his officers in an effort to reduce crime. He say the policy is in-line with what law enforcement in large cities and overseas do.
Officers will use their flashing lights when conducting traffic stops and responding to emergencies.
Lott say Richland County is the first law enforcement agency in the state to enforce this policy.
