Police: Traffic Stop Suspect Jumps into River

Columbia, SC (WLTX) - Columbia police have arrested a  suspect they say jumped into the Congaree River after a traffic stop near downtown.

Officer says they had tried to pull the man over for traffic violation near the intersection of Blossom and Huger Streets Wednesday morning, but he didn't stop. They say the man eventually halted, but then got out of the car near Pendelton and Huger Streets and ran toward the river.

Officers say an officer and his K-9 partner were able to pull the man out of the water.

Police later identified him at 28-year-old Martin Yarbrough. He's charged with speeding, failure to stop for blue lights, driving under suspension (2nd offense), reckless driving and open container.
