HARTSVILLE, SC (WLTX) -- The mother of four children who were killed in a fire in Hartsville yesterday has been charged.
Hope Hawkins, 21, has been charged with one count of unlawful neglect of a child. Investigators say more charges are pending. UPDATE: Mom Charged with Homicide by Child Abuse
Hawkins was taken into custody just after 9:00 PM Thursday and booked into the Darlington County Detention center.
Earlier Thursday, the Darlington County coroner says her four children, ranging from 10-months-old to 4-years-old, died as a result of smoke inhalation after a fire broke out at their mobile home Wednesday afternoon.
The Darlington County Sheriff's department has scheduled a press conference for Friday morning at 10:00 a.m regarding the fire.
A candlelight vigil for the children is taking place Friday night at 8:30 p.m in Hartsville's Centennial Park. Funerals for the children are set for a week from Thursday.
