South Congaree, SC (WLTX) -- The town hall office in South Congaree has been raided by investigators from the State Law Enforcement Division and the FBI.
Information as to exactly what they were looking for is still forthcoming, but News19 did some digging to find answers Thursday.
Long gone were the vehicles that descended on South Congaree to remove items from the town hall. But at one point, dozens of items were taken from the building, according to town Mayor Jerry McCormick.
"I didn't ask any questions, I just said that the town was open and I'd help them in any way possible," McCormick said ouside town hall.
McCormick says he didn't know what to expect when he got a call telling him the town hall would be raided by SLED and FBI agents.
Thursday afternoon it seemed no one wanted to talk about exactly what happened at town hall Wednesday, except Mayor McCormick.
"The investigation was bore at two individuals, and it was our town administrator and our town police chief," McCormick said.
Town administrator Melisha Shumpert is one of those placed on leave. South Congaree Police Chief Jason Amodio is the other.
There was no new information given during the special council meeting Thursday evening.
The mayor says they expected to be updated by investigators next week.
