SPARTANBURG, S.C. (AP) - Wofford College has chosen its new president.

Trustees voted Tuesday to name Nayef Samhat the private college's new leader. Samhat has served as provost and a political science and international studies professor at Kenyon College in Gambier, Ohio, for the past four years.

Samhat will replace Benjamin Dunlap this summer. Dunlap has been Wofford's president since 2000. He will take a yearlong sabbatical, then return as a humanities professor.

Samhat will be the 11th president at Wofford, a private college in Spartanburg with about 1,600 students. He says he is excited to be Wofford's new president because the college has a great reputation of creating leaders.

Samhat earned his bachelor's degree from George Washington University, his master's degree from Columbia University and his Ph.D. from Northwestern University.
