Eutawville, SC (WLTX) -- In a twist, two bounty hunters from Maryland were placed under arrest in the process of apprehending their suspect.
According to a release from the Orangeburg County Sheriff's Office, Corey Newkirk and Shannon Samuel, two bounty hunters from Maryland, were provided the Eutawville location of David Smith, Sr. with an outstanding warrant for DUI in Maryland.
Investigators say the two traveled to Eutawville where they took Smith into custody, handcuffing him and removing him from his residence.
Smith was living in Eutawville with his 7 year old son, who also was taken into custody by the bounty hunters.
After Sheriff's Deputies arrived on scene and verified the validity of the outstanding warrant, Orangeburg Deputies placed Smith under arrest. Deputies report that Smith also has an outstanding DUI warrant for arrest from the state of Florida.
Smith is being held awaiting extradition to Florida, since, according to Deputies, the state of Florida does process extradition, where as Maryland does not extradite.
Terri Ann Smith, the mother of the 7-year-old, was also placed under arrest, for providing false information to Deputies, she gave a false name when asked by investigators.
The two bounty hunters were placed under arrest and charged with two counts each of Kidnapping, as well as an additional charge against Samuel of possession of a weapon during violent crime, for having a Glock .22 on his person during the commission of kidnapping.
