Ridgeway, SC (WLTX)- We are on your side with an update to a story we first brought you in the beginning of May.

Previous Coverage: Thousands of Tires Illegally Dumped in Ridgeway

We received a call from a tenant who lives just 40 feet from where nearly 3-thousand tires are piled up. Vernon Hudson Jr. was frustrated with all of the bugs and snakes in his yard.

Three weeks after News19 made a call to DHEC and Fairfield County Public Works, the tires are being cleaned up.

"It was really bad out here last week," said Charley Corbin.

The owner of the Ridgeway property has hired Corbin and others to haul nearly 3 thousand tires off her property.

Jake Gaston, Assistant Director for Fairfield County Public Works, says it would have cost the land owner over $3,000 dollars but with the help of Fairfield County she is only paying $1,500 dollars.

"We worked with the landowner, DHEC and the private contractor," said Gaston. "We have all been in contact back and forth but the land owner was responsible for paying."

According to DHEC their office of criminal investigation is still reviewing the case to find out who illegally dumped these tires here over the past several years.
