Chapel Hill, SC (WLTX) - The Gamecocks and the Tar Heels will have to wait a day for the battle of the Carolinas.

Rains from Tropical Storm Andrea led to the postponement of Friday's game. The series will now begin with a 12 o'clock game up in Chapel Hill Saturday.

Game two of the series will take place Sunday afternoon, and Game three, if necessary, will be held Monday.

Stadium officials said they met with both teams' coaches and an NCAA representative and decided the field was not playable.

USC Head Coach Chad Holbrook said the delay won't affect his team.

"This is something that we do, that we deal with all year long, it's not a big deal," He said. "We're talking about 24 hours and we've had some games rained out this year. You just get some rest, lace 'em up and go tomorrow."

"The good thing about it is you know that tomorrow looks a little bit drier," Holbrook added. "Hopefully the field will have some time to dry out and it'll be a fair playing surface for both sides."

The grounds crews at Boshamer Stadium said they put vacuums under the tarp on the field to keep the dirt and grass dry. They say the grass may be a little taller for the game, but other than slowing down the ball a little bit, players shouldn't see much of a difference.

"It should look pretty good," one of them told News19's James Starks.

Coach Holbrook said his team remains focused.

"There's no distractions going on. The only distraction they have is maybe the anxiety building up, anxious to get out there on the field and play."

News19 is in Chapel Hill covering the team, and will have complete post-game reaction Saturday and Sunday.
