Columbia, SC (WLTX) -- John D. Long Lake in Union County will be closed until July 1st, 2015.
The Department of Natural Resources says the bass in the lake have become overpopulated. That has had a negative affect on the population of bream, another type of freshwater fish. They have been unable to correct this situation.
DNR will draw down the lake, removing the fish. The lake will be restocked in fall and spring.
The lake and all facilities will be closed to the public for the next two years. Edwin Johnson Lake in Spartanburg County and Jonesville Reservoir are area alternative fishing spots.
