Two men were charged Monday in connection with the death of a 19-year-old Clinton woman, the daughter of a South Carolina Law Enforcement Division agent, who was strangled, authorities said.

Michael Vernon Beaty Jr., 29, of 502 Calvert Ave., Clinton, was charged with murder, said Clinton Public Safety Director Robin Morse and a spokeswoman for the Laurens County Detention Center.

William Jarrell Alexander, 30, of 50 Jaybird Lane, Cross Hill, was charged with accessory after the fact of a murder, they said.

Both were being held at the Laurens County Detention Center, authorities said.

Morse said Saturday night was the last time anyone saw Emily Anna Asbill alive. "We're following up on things," he said.

Officers responded to a call Saturday night at 502 Calvert Ave., where they found Asbill in cardiac arrest, Morse said. She had been strangled, Morse said.

The Laurens County Sheriff's Office and SLED also are investigating, Morse said. A SLED spokesman referred questions to Clinton police.

Sheriff's officials said Asbill was at a Fuller Road residence in Clinton earlier Saturday and was supplied alcohol and drugs. Six people were charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor, deputies said.

Sheriff's Capt. Stephane Williams referred questions to Clinton police.
