Lexington, SC (WLTX) - Lexington police say a person has died from their injuried sustained in a pursuit with officers last week.
The Lexington County Coroner's Office says 27-year-old Corey C. Register of Gaston died at the hospital Tuesday.
Back on June 30th at 1:15 a.m., a Lexington officer tried to stop a Register as he was driving on Columbia Avenue. Police say they suspected him of driving while intoxicated.
Officers say the suspect appeared to be stopping in the parking lot of a fast-food restaurant, but instead continued driving out of the business and onto West Main Street.
According to police, the man then turned onto Park Road and began driving fast. The car ran off the side of the road and hit a tree at the intersection of Park Road and Brookhill West, about a mile from where officers tried to pull Register over.
Paramedics took Register to Palmetto Richland where he later died.
Police say evidence collected during the investigation indicates alcohol contributed to the collision. Investigators also say he was driving under suspension, and had previous convictions for failure to stop for police.
