Columbia, SC (WLTX)- A 8-year-old child who nearly drowned over the Memorial Day Holiday is thankfully alive today.
The parents and Palmetto Health want to share the story to make other parents aware that they always need to watch their child in the pool.
Here's what happened. Patricia Truesdale spent Memorial Day Weekend with her family by the pool. Her 8-year-old son, Michael Truesdale, was swimming in the shallow end. She told her son not to leave the area, but that suddenly changed when she decided to make a quick trip to get food for dinner.
During the fifteen minute trip to the grocery store, she received a call that's every parents worst nightmare.
"I prayed all the way back," Truesdale said.
She found out her son had almost nearly drowned. Heather Slate, a pediatric nurse at Palmetto Children's Hospital who was at the pool ,quickly responded.
Michael was transported to Palmetto's Emergency Trauma Center. Elizabeth Mack a Pediatric Critical Care Physician at the hospital said Michael was fortunate.
Patricia Truesdale is thankful she gets to hold her son's hand another day.
