Columbia, SC (WLTX) - News 19 has learned that Columbia Mayor Steve Benjamin is coordinating an independent panel to review law enforcement practices after a mother of four was killed.
Three suspects--18-year-old Troy Stevenson, 18-year-old Lorenzo Young, and a 16-year-old juvenile--have been charged with shooting and killing 33-year-old Kelly Hunnewell.
Hunnewell was working the early morning shift at a bakery on Tommy Circle when she was shot and killed.
At least one of the accused was out on bond at the time of the death of Kelly Hunnewell. Previous Coverage: Three Suspects Arrested in Killing of Mother of 4
For months the mayor has been calling for bond reform.
"It is always important to periodically review policies to be sure that best practices are being followed," Benjamin said in a statement. "It is very important that law enforcement has the ability to openly communicate & ensure that criminals are aggressively prosecuted."
