Orangeburg County, SC (WLTX)- Some Orangeburg families are trapped because the recent rain has flooded their road.
Aldenise Simmons and her family live on Simmons Siding Drive in Cope. Last week, the road was flooded and cars couldn't even get through.
"It's been very hard," Simmons said. This road has been messy for awhile.
Simmons said she called Orangeburg county and received a voicemail from the county that said the road had to be dried out before they could fix the road.
On Tuesday, things finally changed. Backhoes were digging up dirt to get the road back to normal.
Orangeburg Assistant Public Works Dir. Henry Summers said there's 13 miles of dirt roads in Orangeburg County.
"We haven't had this much rain in approximetely 14 years in Orangeburg County," Summers said. "So therefore, we have so many people that's calling with the same problems. We can't get to all the roads at the same time."
Orangeburg County said they are using resources from other departments to try and help fix the roads.
The county also said Simmons Siding Drive should be drivable Tuesday night.
