SUMTER, S.C. (AP) - A man who prosecutors say ordered gang members to kill the first man who answered the door at a Sumter apartment complex in 2011 has been sentenced to life in prison.

The Item of Sumter reports (http://bit.ly/13FVTqQ ) a jury found 29-year-old Mickey Johnson guilty Thursday of accessory before the fact to murder.

Prosecutors say Johnson ordered members of his gang to go to apartments where rival gang members lived, knock on doors and shoot the first man who answered the door.

Authorities say the men visited one other apartment in March 2011 before shooting 27-year-old Adrian Davis after his girlfriend answered the door.

Johnson's lawyer says he plans to appeal because he thinks the jury judged Johnson's gang membership and not whether he had anything to do with the killing.
