Columbia, SC (WLTX) - Columbia Police have charged a cab driver with shooting at a customer outside a local hotel.

Vincent Laben, 33, is charged attempted murder, possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime, and unlawful carrying of a weapon.

The incident took place at 11 p.m. Tuesday near the Clarion Hotel on Gervais Street.

Officers say Laben picked up the victim at the airport and drove her to the Clarion. The victim tells officers she informed Laben that she didn't have cash and would give him money after using the hotel's ATM.

Police say Laben when he heard that, he grabbed the woman's phone, and the two got into a fight. Police say the victim screamed for help and people nearby broke up the fight.

The victim then walked into the hotel. However, investigators say Laben grabbed as assault rifle from his car, ran after the victim, and fired two rounds at her.

No one was injured.

A man standing near the hotel detained Laben until police arrived.
