Columbia, SC (WLTX) -- The Richland County Sheriff's Department has arrested one on charges of murder at the Deer Park Apartments.

Sheriff Lott says the suspect arrested, 29 year old Kevin Lewis, was called to the area following a verbal altercation between two groups of juveniles in the parking lot of the Deer Park Apartments around 9PM on July 24th.

The Sheriff states that the victim, 25 year old Howard Nemley, was outside his apartment with a 23 year old friend, and neither were part of the groups of juveniles arguing.

According to Sheriff Lott, the victim's friend began egging on the two groups of juveniles, encouraging them to start fighting. One of the juvenile's mother allegedly got involved in the situation, calling her boyfriend's brother, Kevin Lewis, to the parking lot.

According to the Sheriff, Lewis allegedly gathered multiple people together to drive to the Deer Park apartments, and became directly involved in the altercation by severely beating Nemley's friend who then fled on foot.

The sheriff says that shots were fired, striking the victim in the upper body, and when Nemley attempted to flee on foot he's shot again in the upper body, and died as a result.

Lewis was charged with murder and booked into the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center, and refuses to cooperate with investigators by identifying the others involved.

The Sheriff additionally stated that Lewis arrived at the Apartments with some of the other suspects in a gold Chevrolet Yukon Denali, and additional suspects were riding in a green SUV, make or model unidentified.

Lott knows that Lewis was captured on security camera video moments prior to the incident with another person at a nearby convenience store.
