Richland County, SC (WLTX) - Richland School District Two says they are "deeply saddened" by the news that 15-year-old Gabbiee Swainson has been found dead.
Sheriff Leon Lott held a news conference Thursday night where he revealed that the 15-year-old's remains had been found in an area of Kershaw County.
Swainson had been a student at Ridge View High School.
Dr. Debra Hamm, the interim superintendent, released the following statement:
"Today we learned of the untimely and senseless death of Ridge View High School student Gabrielle Swainson. We are deeply saddened by this tragic event and extend our heartfelt sympathy to those who love and care about Gabrielle. She touched many people in such a positive way in her short life and, of course, many people have been affected by her disappearance and passing. Our crisis response team is working in coordination with the school to be ready to provide grief counseling and other services to help students and staff get through this tragedy when they return to school.
"Please keep Gabrielle's family in your thoughts and prayers. School staff have been in close contact with the Swainson family from the beginning and we will continue to support the family in preserving Gabrielle's memory. We sincerely thank law enforcement officials and members of our community for their unceasing efforts during this difficult time."
