Columbia, SC (WLTX) - South Carolina Head Coach Steve Spurrier says star defensive end Jadeveon Clowney is expected to play in the team's opener against North Carolina.
Spurrier confirmed the news Wednesday morning after practice.
Earlier, Spurrier had said a shoulder injury Clowney had suffered might cause him to miss the first game, scheduled for August 29th.
Then on Tuesday, Spurrier said Clowney, two other injured players, and the coaching staff had a "communication problem." Spurrier said the players didn't know they were supposed to be watching practice despite their injuries. Spurrier says that's now a resolved issue.
"All communication problems have been solved," said Coach Spurrier. "He's [Clowney] back on the team in good standing."
Spurrier once again confirmed that Connor Shaw will be the starting quarterback.
"(Shaw and Dylan Thompson) are ready to play," Spurrier said. "We'll try to find a way to get them both in there, but Connor Shaw is the starter. Dylan is going to play somewhere it looks like. We're still working on that two-quarterback system offense. We're thinking about it."
