San Francisco, CA (WLTX) - Former Gamecocks running back Marcus Lattimore likely won't play in the NFL this season, ESPN reports.
ESPN pro football writer Adam Schefter cited San Francisco 49ers team sources Monday as saying the running back isn't expected to take the field, despite his attempts to come back this year.
As Gamecock fans know, Lattimore damaged his knee last October in the team's game versus Tennessee, ending his season and his career at Carolina. He had surgery to repair the problem, and then began months of intensive rehabilitation.
In last April's NFL Draft, the 49ers picked Lattimore in the fourth round.
However, sources told Schefter that the team has no plans to play Lattimore until he's fully recovered. The report says the team could place Lattimore either on injured reserve or the physically unable to perform list.
