Richland County, SC (WLTX) - Richland County deputies have arrested a postal worker on claims he took counterfeit money from a mailing while on the job.

Richard Houghtallen, 45, is charged with breach of trust. He was arrested at the Dutch Fork Post Office.

Officers say on Thursday, they got a call of fake money being used at a Dunkin' Donuts on Two Notch Road.

Investigators say they determined the money came from Houghtallen, and got a search warrant to look inside his home. During the search, officers say they found envelopes that contained counterfeit money.

According to investigators,  Houghtallen intercepted a mailing from local banks to the U.S. Secret Service while he was working at the post office. The banks sent the money to the government because they thought it was potentially counterfeit.

Sheriff Leon Lott says in all, the amount of currency found totaled $10,000.
