Columbia, SC (WLTX) - Thanks to a new bus route that stops in the Vista to take fans to Williams Brice Stadium local business owners hope it will boost the number of customers they have on game days.
"It's the first game, on National TV on a Thursday night," said Willie Durkin at Thirsty Fellow in the Vista.
As the team and fans are getting ready for the home opener, so are business owners in the Vista.
"The buzz has been great especially amongst my staff saying hey we want the day off to go see the Gamecocks play," said Daniel Grant, General Manger at the Blue Marlin.
With one of the Gamecock Express Shuttle stops right in the vista on the corner of Lincoln and Blossom Streets, Durkin hopes to cash in on extra people in the area.
"There is at least one thousand spaces right across the street, its so perfect. This location has worked out great for us, not only the shuttle for the football games but the baseball shuttle and when there are special events at the Colonial Life Arena," said Durkin.
Fans can park in the vista and take a shuttle to the stadium to watch the game or tailgate.
Eddie Wales at Motor Supply says when the team is doing good, so do local businesses.
"The more popular the Gamecocks get the bigger the university gets the busier we are so the vista is growing by leaps and bounds every year and the university adds to it and the games add to it also," said Wales.
Down the street from Motor Supply is the Blue Marlin in the Vista. Grant says the streets are always busy on game days... But now with the shuttle it can bring even more people to the area.
"It's going to be better for the vista that people are actually seeing the local businesses and the Blue Marlin is included so we are ready for the beginning of the season," said Grant.
"They make a big deal out of the football games and rightfully so and when the product is as good as it is now, people are excited and want to participate," said Durkin.
