Sumter, SC (WLTX) - Sumter police have arrested two teenagers they say sexually assaulted a male student at Sumter High School.
The incident took place in February of this year. It was first reported to law enforcement in May.
According to police, the three suspects assaulted the 14-year-old boy in the locker room of Sumter High. The victim told police two of the boys held him down while the third sexually assaulted him with an unknown object.
Two of the suspects, identified as 16-year-old Deonte Lowery and 16-year-old Tiquan Colclough, have been arrested and charged in the incident with criminal sexual conduct with a minor 2nd degree and conspiracy. The third suspect has not yet been identified.
News19 is publishing their names because the two are charged as adults.
Sumter schools officials confirmed to News19 that Lowery and Colclough are football players at Sumter High. They also released the following statement:
"Sumter School District takes the nature of this incident very seriously and is cooperating fully with law enforcement. The district is treating the charges as a Category I offense in accordance with our discipline policy. The students have been suspended pending the outcome of a disciplinary hearing. During this time, the students will not be permitted on school grounds, nor can they participate in extra curricular activities."
