CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) - A serial rapist has been sentenced to 25 years in prison for brutally assaulting women last year on the Charleston peninsula.
Nathaniel Tyler, 48, pleaded guilty Friday to raping three women. As part of the plea deal, prosecutors dropped charges for two other attacks.
Prosecutors say the plea was partly to spare Tyler's victims from testifying. Four of the women attended the court hearing.
One victim told the judge she has scars on her legs from jumping through a window to escape Tyler. The wounds required 17 stitches.
Tyler's criminal record dates to 1982, for a rape in Richland County. He told the judge he'd been diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia. He offered no apologies. He's been in jail since his arrest in August 2012.
