Columbia, SC (WLTX)- It was a packed lunchroom at Dutch Fork Elementary School Friday afternoon.

Hundreds of grandparents from several different states made the trip to Columbia to spend time with their grandkids in honor of "Grandparents and Grandfriends Day." Becky and Graham Houghton traveled from Tennessee.

"It is very important," said Becky. "Important enough for us to postpone Graham getting a pacemaker, we postponed it to Monday."

Their grandson Zane was all smiles as he sat with them to eat spaghetti.

"It makes me proud, i love my grandma and papaw," said Zane.

The Houghton's have 17 grandkids but took this day to spend with just one special boy.

"All of our grandchildren are special but Zade may be even more special. He is extremely sensitive and caring," said Graham.

Nearly 300 people signed up for the event last year.
