MURRELLS INLET, S.C. (AP/WBTW) - A Horry County high school has been evacuated for the day after someone burned several American flags outside the front entrance before school started.
WBTW reports that Horry County Police arrested a 17 year old suspect in connection with the flag burning.
Officials at St. James High School found the burned flags around 6:20 a.m. Monday and called Horry County Police. When investigators reviewed surveillance video, they say they saw the suspect do other suspicious things and decided to keep students and teachers outside.
A photo released by police shows a man with flags dressed in all black, including black rimmed goggles.
The students and teachers were eventually taken to St. James Middle School, where they will remain the rest of Monday. Students aren't being allowed back on campus as police continue to check the high school.
So far, authorities say nothing else suspicious has been found.
