Columbia, SC (WLTX) - The public had another chance to weigh in on the controversial plan for a new homeless shelter in Columbia.
Councilman Cameron Runyan, who proposed the city's new homeless plan, hosted the event and many in attendance criticized his idea.
Under the proposal, the city would have a seven-month winter shelter off Huger Street. The city would also step up enforcement of its loitering laws and allowing people to sleep in public parks.
Some say the plan violates the rights that the homeless have and others feel that it is needed to help fix the homeless problem in downtown Columbia.
A contract for the shelter has not been signed yet. Council hopes to take care of that before the shelter opens in two weeks.
