Sheriff: Man Arrested for Possessing Stolen Fishing Boats

Lexington County, SC (WLTX) - The  Lexington County Sheriff's department has arrested a man on burglary charges after finding four boats and trailers and other items that had been reported stolen. 

Charles Heyward Spires Jr, 26, of Lexington has been charged with second-degree burglary, grand larceny and receiving stolen goods. He was also served with a family court bench warrant for failing to make court-ordered child support payments. 

According to deputies, earlier this month Spires stole a 42-inch flat-screen, two electric guitars, an acoustic guitar and tried to sell the items at a pawn shop and music store.  The warrant also states that he stole a 19-foot fishing boat and trailer, U-Haul car hauler, Traveler fishing boat, War Eagle fishing boat, Stingray fishing boat and boat trailers that had all been reported stolen. 

The combined total of stolen items was over $54,000.   

Detectives found a set of Spire's keys to his truck on one of the trailers that detectives recovered in woods.  Witnesses identified Spires as the man who placed the stolen items in the woods. 

Sheriff's department fugitive investigators arrested Spires at a motel near West Columbia.   He is being held on bail totaling $32,130.
