Dakarai Turner joined News19 in April 2013. His career in journalism started as an intern for NBC5 Chicago and as an investigative intern at FOX 32 News, also in Chicago. He credits much of his experiences in the Windy City for making him the reporter that he is today.
Dakarai graduated from DePaul University and reported for DePaul's award-winning news program, "Good Day DePaul. " That is where he covered Election Night 2012 at President Barack Obama's election night headquarters. He also reported on the NATO Summit and the protests around it, filed investigative reports, and won a student award from the Society of Professional Journalists for his report on the abuse of energy drinks among some college students. He also wrote for the school's newspaper.
He's a member of the National Association of Black Journalists, from which he won a scholarship, and received another from the Radio Television Digital News Foundation.
Dakarai is originally from Seattle, Washington, but is happy to now call the Midlands home and likes to go to festivals, go sightseeing, or plunk down on the couch and catch a few TV shows.
Dakarai is "On Your Side" and would like to hear your story ideas or tips. You can send him an email, reach him on Twitter @Dakarai_Turner, or find him on Facebook.
