Clarendon County, SC (WLTX) -- A Clarendon County family is showing off their weekend catch. The Carter family says they caught a 680 pound alligator Saturday afternoon at Taw Caw off Lake Marion. The gator measured 11 feet, 7 inches.
Jeff, Cecil, Joey and Rory Carter were in their boat for about 4 hours before spotting the gator and getting it hooked. "He was extremely strong and we were exhausted by the time we got him to the side of the boat," Jeff Carter tells News19. "It took us just under one hour to finally get him. Getting him in the boat was just as hard of a job as catching him but we finally did."
Alligator permits are given out in a lottery system in South Carolina. Saturday was opening day of the hunting season. It runs until October 12th.
