CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) - A woman is getting treatment in a South Carolina hospital after surviving a jump off Charleston's bridge over the Cooper River.

The U.S. Coast Guard said the 31-year-old was considering suicide before authorities were called to the Ravenel Bridge around 3 a.m. Saturday. She stayed on the bridge for about four hours before jumping around 6:30 a.m.

The Coast Guard said the woman officials did not identify was conscious and complaining of back pain when she was rescued from the water.

The eight-lane road deck of the bridge connecting Charleston to Mount Pleasant is nearly 200 feet above the river.

The span's southbound lanes were closed for several hours before dawn during the standoff.
