Columbia, SC (WLTX)- The 16th annual Silent Witness Ceremony was held Tuesday at the State House.
Victims' family members, friends, or volunteers carried a life-sized silhouette representing the victim to the State House steps as a bell was rung for each victim.
In 2012, 48 South Carolinians were killed by their intimate partners.

One of the victims remembered was 44-year-old Tammy Parker.
A jury recently convicted her husband Brett Parker on running an illegal gambling ring in the Midlands.
He shot his wife multiple times in their home in Richland County.
A domestic abuse survivor, Sandra Dayse, shared her story.
"I wanted to be free from the violence, the harassment, the intimidation, the control and the fear," Dayse said.
It was an eye-opening ceremony for friends and family members.
"This ceremony really touched my heart," Charlene Trapp a victim's friend said. "It took me to another level."
