Thomas Stafford appears in court on October 3, 2013.
Lexington County, SC (WLTX) - A man will spend 17 years in prison for killing a South Carolina Department of Transportation employee in a DUI-related crash.
A judge sentenced 39-year-old Thomas Stafford Thursday after he pled guilty to charges of felony DUI and leaving the scene of an accident. He was given 17 years for each charge, but the sentences will be served at the same time.
Last December, Johnson hit 21-year-old Nicholas Johnson as Johnson was working on the Broad River Bridge along Interstate 20 in Lexington County.
Stafford had been arrested for DUI about two weeks prior to that incident. He'd also been convicted of DUI in 2008, according to State Law Enforcement Division records.
