Columbia, SC (WLTX)- Over 1,200 supporters from all over the state joined Saturday's 7th Annual Mayor's Walk Against Domestic Violence in Finlay Park. The walk is to honor of the taken, to support the fights and to admire the survivors.
Mayor Steve Benjamin, Councilwoman Tameika Isaac Devine, Richland County Councilwoman Julie Ann Dixon, Interim Police Chief Rueben Santiago, Sistercare board member Antjuan Seawright and a representative from the 5th Circuit Solicitors Office all gave a few remarks to the crowd.
Verizon Wireless presented Sistercare with $2,000 to go towards victim services and will be collecting wireless phones at City Hall throughout October in conjunction with Verizon's HopeLine program.
Citizens can donate any old and unused wireless phones between 8:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. at City Hall, located at 1737 Main St.
