South Carolina Taking Part in Earthquake Drills

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - People across South Carolina are taking part in activities to prepare them for an earthquake.
 
The Great Southeast ShakeOut Earthquake Drill is happening on Thursday and is part of Earthquake Awareness Week.
 
The South Carolina Emergency Management Division says more than 232,000 people in the state have registered to participate in the drills that begin at 10:17 a.m. Across the region, more than 1.6 million people have signed up.
 
Officials say 11 earthquakes have been confirmed in South Carolina this year.
 
Geologists at the College of Charleston say there are typically 10 to 20 earthquakes annually in the state.
