Lexington County Deputies on the scene of a shooting on Mineral Springs Road.

The Lexington County Sheriff's Department has released the following information on this incident:
A Lexington County Deputy responded to a call of shots fired at about 1:00PM Monday, and when Lexington County Sheriff Deputy Billy Womble arrived, found a man inside the home with a gun.
Deputy Womble reports that the man pointed his gun at the Deputy and threatened him.
Womble fired his service weapon at the man, who later was pronounced dead at the scene by the Lexington County Coroner, called to the home following the incident.
The Sheriff requested SLED Agents attend to the location to investigate the incident, and Deputy Womble has been placed on administrative leave with pay during the SLED investigation, which is standard practice for the Lexington County Sheriff's Department.
The Lexington County Coroner has not identified the man shot, pending notification of next-of-kin.
News 19 has confirmed that South Carolina Law Enforcement Division investigators are at the Mineral Springs Road house, the location of an apparent officer-involved shooting.
SLED spokesman Thom Berry tells News 19 reporter Dakarai Turner that SLED Agents, along with a crime scene unit, were dispatched to the home to investigate the shooting at the home.

Deputies have not commented yet on any details that may have led up to the shooting.
The Sheriff's department public information officer, Major John Allard, tells News19 "I was told that it could be several hours before I will have details available to me that we can release."
