Lexington, SC (WLTX) -- The Lexington County coroner has identified the man shot and killed by a Lexington County deputy on Monday as Wilmon L. Hutto, Jr, 71.

Hutto is a former chief with Lexington Fire Services. He retired in 2003.

The Lexington County Sheriff's Department says Deputy Billy Womble went to a home on Mineral Springs Road around 1 p.m. Monday after the department received a call of shots fired. They say once Womble arrived at the house, he encountered Hutto with a gun. Deputy Womble says Hutto pointeed the gun towards him in a threatening manner and that's when he fired, killing Hutto.
