Irmo, SC (WLTX) - Former University of South Carolina Gamecock Kenny Miles was in stable condition Monday night at a local hospital after he was shot earlier in the day.

UPDATE: Kenny Miles Shooting was not a Robbery

Miles sustained a soft tissue injury from a gunshot wound in his forearm, according to USC team physician Dr. Jeffery Guy.  There were no additional injuries and his injury is not considered life threatening.  He is expected to be released on Tuesday.

Deputies say a little after 1 p.m., a suspect shot Miles in the upper body at the Dutch Fork Business Park in the 100 block of Centrum Drive, which is just off Highway 176 during a robbery.

According to Deputy Curtis Wilson with the Richland County Sheriff's Department, the suspect confronted Miles at that location, and the two argued. Wilson said the suspect may have been trying to take money and a USC championship ring from Miles.

Deputies have not yet identified a possible suspect, but say they are collecting information in the case, and even briefly talked to Miles as he was being transported to the hospital.

Miles played for the Gamecocks from 2008 to 2012. His last appearance for the team was in the Outback Bowl played this past January 1st.

Miles, who's hometown is Lawrenceville, Georgia, graduated with a degree in criminal justice in 2012. Since August, he's worked in the South Carolina Attorney General's Office as a support clerk, where he works with community outreach and youth mentoring.
