Columbia to Open Downtown Skating Rink for 2nd Year

Columbia, SC (WLTX) - The City of Columbia will open a downtown skating rink for the second year.

The city announced that "Main Street Ice" will be back at Boyd Plaza, which is in front of the Columbia Museum of Art at the corner of Hampton and Main Streets.

The rink will open on November 28th (Thanksgiving) and will stay open until January 20th.

It costs $10 for adults and $8 or children ages 12 and under.

The rink is a partnership between the City of Columbia and Magic Ice USA. It measures 50 by 63 feet.

Last year, the city said the rink brought in over $100,000 in revenue.

Here is the schedule for the rink:

Opening Day (Thanksgiving) 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Monday -Thursday, 4 - 9:00 p.m.
Friday, 4 -10:00 p.m.
Saturday, 10 a.m. - 10:00 p.m.
Sunday, 1:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m.  

The rink will have special operating hours December 16 through January 3, opening at 12 p.m., Monday - Friday to coincide with local school districts' winter break schedules.

The rink will be closed on Christmas Day and open until 12 a.m. on New Year's Eve.
