Columbia, SC (WLTX) - An estimated 630,000 South Carolinians will travel 50 miles or more during the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday.
AAA Carolinas released their holiday travel forecast Thursday.
Of those traveling, 567,000--or about 90 percent--will be using their car. Most people will leave the day before Thanksgiving and will go back on Sunday.
"Thanksgiving is the busiest travel weekend of the year," said David E. Parsons, president and CEO of AAA Carolinas. "Drivers should expect heavy congestion and plan on taking more time to reach their destination."
When folks hit the road, they'll notice slightly lower gas prices than they found last year. The average price in the state is $3.07 a gallon, down six cents from a year ago and down 21 cents since Labor Day.
