Camden, SC (WLTX) - Camden police say a 13-year-old student brought a loaded gun to school Tuesday morning.
Camden Police Captain Mike Stone said the incident began around 8:25 a.m. at Camden Middle School.
In a call to parents, Principal Byron Johnson said that another student told a staff member the boy had a weapon. School officials then searched the boy's bookbag and say they found the gun.
According to Stone, the gun was a .38 caliber revolver that belonged to a family member of the boy. Investigators believe the boy brought the gun to school to show off.
The teen is being charged with disturbing schools and possession of a weapon by a minor. He's being held at the Department of Juvenile Justice in Columbia.
Police say there have been no prior incidents with this teen, and Johnson adds there is no evidence to suggest threats or bullying were involved.
