Columbia, SC (WLTX)- The FedEx truck arrived bright and early at Old Barn Christmas Tree Farm in Chapin Wednesday morning.

More than a dozen volunteers loaded Christmas trees for our troops at home and overseas.

This year, 18,000 trees are expected to be delivered to U.S. military bases, as well as an international shipment to military bases overseas through a program called Trees for Troops.

ROTC students from Chapin High School and soldiers from the Army National Guard helped bright and early.

"I mean they go out there and they risk their lives for us," ROTC student Nancy Morris said. "I mean it's the least we could do."

For the past nine years, Christmas tree growers nationwide have donated more than 100,000 Christmas trees through Trees for Troops.

"It's just a small way that we can give something back to our brave heroes that give so much for us," tree farmer and volunteer Stuart Smith said.
