Columbia, South Carolina (WLTX)- There's a man in the Midlands who's been greeting people around the holidays, ringing bells, and playing the trombone for more than 70 years.
At just 6-years-old, David Appleby started volunteering for the Salvation Army.
"I rang the bell with my mother on the Christmas kettle in Pennsylvania," Appleby said.
He moved to the Capitol City with his wife in 2002 after he lived in different states.
"When we had both finally retired, we decided to settle in South Carolina," he said.
Applyby decided to bring his holiday spirit to the Midlands.
"When you give of yourself expecting nothing in return that sort of sets the mood in your mind for what your hoping to accomplish in providing for others," Appleby said.
