Lugoff, SC (WLTX) -- The Kershaw County Sheriff says deputies investigating shots fired ended up arresting a man with cocaine and marijuana.
Around 2AM on the morning of Saturday, Dec. 21st, deputies with the Kershaw County Sheriff's department patrolling the area near Plums Lounge on Highway 1 in Lugoff, when deputies reported hearing gunfire coming from inside the lounge.
Deputies observed a number of people running from the club, including a man leaving the club and going to a nearby hotel.
Witnesses from inside Plums Lounge told the Deputies there had been an altercation inside, and the man who had been seen going to the nearby hotel had fired two shots inside the club, in an attempt to break up the fight. No one was hit by the gunshots, and the Deputies located two spent 9MM shells from the location.
Deputies interviewed the man, identified as 53-year-old Melvin Harris from Locust Grove, GA, and he agreed to permit the Deputies to search his hotel room.
Deputies discovered a quantity of marijuana, crack cocaine, scales, packaging material, and $1,539 in cash. They did not recover a handgun.
Harris was placed under arrest, and charged with Possession within Proximity to a school, Possession with Intent to Distribute marijuana and crack cocaine. He was released on a $30,000 bond.
