76-Year-Old Charles Butler

Newberry, SC (WLTX) -- The Newberry County Sheriff's Department says the estranged husband of a woman found dead in her home Saturday was arrested in Pennsylvania and will be charged with her murder.

Deputies said 76-year-old Charles Butler is awaiting extradition hearings.

According to Newberry County Sheriff Lee Foster, 72-year-old Andrenna Butler's body was discovered by a concerned friend Saturday night after being unable to contact her.

The friend made the discovery at approximately 10:30PM, and immediately contacted law enforcement officials. The friend had last spoken to her around midday Friday, and after repeated attempts to contact Butler, went to her home and gained entry to the home through a garage door. The friend saw Butler's body through the glass door between the garage and home, and called 911.

Newberry County EMS responders determined Ms. Butler had no signs of life, and called in the Newberry County Coroner's office for an official pronouncement of death.

The coroner said Ms. Butler died as a result of a gun shot wound to the head.

The County Sheriff reports that there were no signs of forced entry into the home, no signs of theft, and the home's alarm system had not been activated.

Andrenna and Charles Butler had recently separated after more than 50 years of marriage.  Charles Butler moved to Pennsylvania following the separation.
