Columbia, SC (WLTX) - The stage is set for the Famously Hot New Year's Eve Party in downtown Columbia.
Thousands are expected the ring in the new year at the annual party. Monday, crews were preparing the stages and surrounding area.
David Yates is the manager at ACS, and like last year, helped set the stage for a party that brings thousands to the capital city.
"It's hours, we have crews preparing gear and loading up for a four hour show," Yates said.
This year, R&B band Kool and the Gang will take center stage at 10:30 p.m. There will also be a new video board. The night will be capped off with a fireworks show over the State House.
But before Tuesday's celebration begins, Peyton Greene with Checker Yellow Cab says it's important to prepare.
"Make sure you go ahead and schedule a cab in advance and keep in mind that it does get super busy," Greene says.
He adds there will be over 100 cabs stationed at three locations: the fountain in Five Points, near Lady and Sumter Streets, and the Tin Roof club in the Vista.
"We want to get people home safely and if you have had too much to drink you don't need to be on the road," Greene says.
Checker Yellow Cab has a free app where you can order the cab and track its progress and also the first ten dollars of your ride will be free thanks to Budweisers' safe ride program beginning at 11pm.
If you are planning to head out to the famously hot new year, the gates will open at 6:30 pm. General admission is free, but there is a VIP package, which you can find out more about by going to www.famouslyhotnewyear.com/
Several streets including parts of Gervais and Main are already closed down and will remain closed until New Year's Day.
