Orlando, Florida (WLTX) -- Walk-on fullback Garrison Gist will get the start Wednesday for the Gamecocks in the Capital One Bowl. Gist will get the opportunity after Connor McLaurin injured his ankle during practice.
Gist, a sophomore, joined the South Carolina football team in the spring and has made a name for himself in the weight room. He is a former powerlifter and is an art studio major.
News19 profiled his graphic design talents and his powerlifting in an October Behind the Mask story.
Gist has not seen much playing time this season. The Rock Hill native played a few snaps during Carolina's 70-10 win against Coastal Carolina.
