Employee Fired in Security Breach Sues State

A new development in the security breach at the South Carolina Department of Employment and Workforce. 

The SCDEW employee fired for accusations she downloaded more than 4,600 other employees and family members has filed a civil lawsuit against the agency. Previous Coverage: Unauthorized Download at SCDEW Under Investigation

Kerry Paul was the HR director for the agency, and says she had downloaded that information properly as part of her job. She says in her lawsuit that the security breach story was a cover up because the agency director wanted to get rid of her.

"This is nothing more than a disgruntled former employee who was fired for violating agency policy regarding the handling of personal identification information," said SCDEW Chief of Staff Darrell T. Scott in a statement. "There is no merit to this lawsuit."
