Brandon Robinson, 20, was killed outside a dorm on campus. The State Law Enforcement Division says he was shot by 19-year-old Justin Bernard Singleton following an argument.

Singleton is also a student at the school.

"We are at loss for words right now," said South Carolina State Head Football Coach Buddy Pough Saturday in a statement.  "The entire university and our athletic family are grieving right now and our hearts are heavy. Our deepest condolences go out to the Robinson family."

Robinson, a junior majoring in industrial engineering technology, was also a member of the football team. An Orangeburg native, he also graduated from Orangeburg-Wilkinson High.

SC State President Thomas Elzey made grief counselors available to students Saturday. Before the women's basketball game in the afternoon, students and fans held a moment of silence.

Funeral arrangements and any possible memorial plans have not been announced yet.
