Sheriff: Deputy and Son Involved in Head On Collison

Sumter, SC (WLTX)  A Sumter Sheriff deputy and his son were involved in a car accident late Monday afternoon.

According to Sumter Sheriff Anthony Dennis, Lt. Dale Horton was driving in a marked SUV with his ten-year-old son when his vehicle collided head on with another vehicle. 

The accident happened just after 5:15PM on St. Paul Church road. 

According to LCpl. Judd Jones, Lt. Horton was driving south on St. Paul Church road when a 2010 Chevy Cruz heading north, crossed the center line and struck the deputy's car.  

Horton had serious injuries and was flown to Palmetto Richland.  The driver of the other car also has sustained serious injuries and was also flown to Palmetto Richland Memorial hospital.   Horton's son was treated and released from the hospital.  

South Carolina Highway Patrol is continuing to investigate the collision.
